Clique...oh I'll show you Cliques
First off, this should be required reading for any former or current members of the Sadler Fan Club.

Now that gets into all the legal issues at hand, and I'm going to hit this from some other angles.
I'd like to emphasize as well that what this small group did was very nice and well within the Christmas spirit. Their heart was in the right place, but their head was not. That seems to be a trend. This is not a one time event.
Let me ask, if this was all about the causes that were receiving the contributions, why the need to publish the names of those that gave? The gifts were given in the "name of the SFC" yet there are 16 names listed on the page on SFC that shows the family that received these benefits. Is this some glorified ego trip for this clique? Are they trying to show that they are more "true fans" then those in the SFC that didn't give? What are these folks looking for? A Congressional Medal of Honor? If you seek public recognition every time you donate to a charitable cause what does that say about the person that is contributing?
Well that's part of the rub isn't it? The other members of the SFC were not able to contribute because they were not made aware of it. By default it appears that the other SFC members don't care enough to give because their names are not listed. The explanation given was that Elliott might see this and know of it. So what?! Do you think if Elliott saw this, a far stretch of the imagination based on what we all know, do you think he would've told his fans to not support this family in need? If he did what would you think of him then?! Bottom line even if you posted it every day for a month he wouldn't see it. He doesn't look at that message board. Most anyone with 5 brain cells is aware of that, and I have personally heard him tell people that. If they don't believe that then they are in La la land.
How ironic that many people that complained about the "cliquish" nature of SFC under the previous Webmaster now run the most exclusive clique I have ever seen on any racing message board anywhere. They have their own website, Myspace, you name it. What's next? "I'm a bigger fan then you are" t-shirts?? Mine as well print them up because that is what is implied. Bigger fan figuratively, not literally. Oh boy that one is going to get me in trouble.
Anywho. You know back in the "good ole days" when being a "true fan" did not require a $15 fee, oh wait now a $25 fee, membership on that message board was over 2000 people. Last year, was between 400-500. Over the holidays they purged all the folks that had not yet paid for 2007. Anyone want to bet on how many they have for 2007? I'd bet the house it's less then 2006. From numerous sources last year people described a very antiseptic message board free of any personality or discussion of racing. Basically it sounded like a bunch of lemmings being led by a couple of "promoted" lemmings. But there's always the hours of entertainment from made up conversations between the driver, spotter, other family members, crew members etc. Man I bet that is worth the $25 alone!!!! Members were promised more input and use of the board from the driver, but what they really got was a huge bump up in involvement from the spotter/ business manager.

And for that $25 fee, what do you get? The site says: Everyone who joins the Sadler Fan Club now will be joining for 2007. Each member will receive a fan package after the first of the 2007 calendar year. The contents of the 2007 Fan Package will be listed at a later date.
As of yet, no listing. One wonders if the Fan Club really wants to deal with all of those pesky fans.
